Married at First Sight season 18, episode 8 recap - chef's kiss and a rude diss

Housewarming parties are anything but welcoming on this week's episode of Married at First Sight. The MAFS season 18 couples get contentious with family and friends, and competitive in a flag football game of "oldies with injuries". Who will stay married and who will get divorced on decision day?

The road is getting rockier for the couples as they throw housewarming parties this week. The relationships are anything but warm between the newlyweds and their friends and family as they celebrate their new marriages. From surprise parties to shocking no shows, here's how episode 8 of Married at First Sight went down.

Michelle and David

Let's get our hottest mess out of the way first. No surprise here, Michelle still isn't feeling David. Love isn't blind on this show. They're basically living separate lives, and when David leaves Michelle a note instead of texting or calling, she's mad. Again. And while Michelle doesn't want to spend more time with David, she also isn't happy he's working out with Madison again. This guy could buy her an entire Tiffany's store and she still isn't having it

While Michelle humble brags about how humble she is, we learned that her getting to where she's at in life means renting her studio apartment. Now I rent too, and there's nothing wrong with it, but I also don't act all high and mighty about my situation compared to someone who lives with their parents. It's not that many steps above on the ladder, ya know? After sharing a dinner, they go off to their separate bedrooms, which Michelle is all too happy to also brag about to David's friend.

It's not all doom and gloom for Michelle and David, though. At the flag football game, Michelle surprises everyone, including herself, by not having the most complaints about her husband. Who knew?

Karla and Juan

Despite a theme party for their housewarming, the togas didn't help Karla see Juan's more serious side. They had awkward exchanges with each other's friends, because nothing says I take my relationship seriously like a sheet dress.

Their relationship has been a bit questionable lately, and there certainly seem to be challenges ahead for the couple, but the visit from the experts actually worked in their favor unlike some of the other couples. Pastor Cal and Dr. Pia drop by their apartment to help them connect and communicate better. They share a heartfelt moment when talking about how they give and receive love, but Karla's love language is physical touch, and Juan is holding out in that department. Will these two ever see eye to eye? They seemed like a promising match post-wedding, but they are so opposite in key ways, I'm not sure they're going to go the distance. Especially when Karla describes being intimate with Juan as platonic.

Emem and Ikechi

Say it isn't so! I had such high hopes for Emem and Ikechi. They seemed like one of the best matches of the season. That isn't the best endorsement, but they seemed to want the same things in life, and have a good balance of similarities in their lifestyles and values that they were well matched.

I'm not giving up on them yet, but the cracks are starting to show. After a passive aggressive argument over tacos, who makes them and how, they have a very awkward, intense housewarming party with the families. Ikechi isn't there to win friends or influence people. He also isn't shy about his blunt opinions about his wife. She is capital A Aggressive, according to Ikechi. From asking for physical affection to how she communicates, he is not a fan. That's ok, because Emem's family isn't a fan of Ikechi either right now. They're seeing lots of red flags, and Emem looks like she isn't too thrilled by her new husband either. While chatting with the women at the flag football game, Emem is quick to gripe about Ikechi's description of her. Can't anyone just be happy?!

Camille and Thomas

I'm still team Tamille, but I need Camille to get over Thomas being different from her exes. That's the point. If your exes were so great, you probably would have married one. I truly hope her constantly bringing up Thomas's lack of swag is for the cameras and to amp up the drama, but if not, baby girl, remember why you're on the show in the first, second and 5,000th place. What you were doing wasn't working!

Camille's sister had excellent advice at their brunch, comparing their upbringings and finding common ground in the experiences both Camille and Thomas had growing up. Despite their very different childhoods, they both share the same core values and life outlook, which is far more important than swag.

The most shocking revelation of the week was the couple hasn't consummated the marriage yet. What are they waiting for? I know Thomas was a bit too open with his hygiene habits last week, but did that kill any chance for romance with these two? Their housewarming pool party didn't clear things up, and was mostly just a recap of the challenges Camille and Thomas have been facing getting to know one another while being married.

Madison and Allen

Madison is putting a lot of effort into making her marriage work even if she's not as attracted to Allen as she'd like to be. I was ready to be mad at Madison for kicking Allen out of the apartment so she could have a spa day with her friends. Initially, I thought Allen would be the one giving it his all. After it was revealed Madison's reason for keeping Allen busy was to host a sweet surprise birthday party for him, he bails on their couples flag football game to sleep off a hangover.

You can go to the gym all you want Allen, but that alone is not going to win Madison's heart. It's going to take more than a few pilates classes to make your wife fall in love with you, and the clock's ticking. I have a feeling that Allen is being a bit of a sore loser that Madison is still living single in many ways, not inviting him places. If his style is to not show up for her instead of talking about his issues, he isn't ready for any marriage, let alone this one.
