The Wranglers Recap Episode 5: Things heat up between Gabby and Chase
By Matthew Fox
It was another week of big happenings at the ranch that included relationships, drama, and even a makeover. Let’s dive into the fifth episode of The Wranglers!
Vern Gets a Makeover
The guests at the Circle Bar Dude Ranch this week were a group of stylists who wanted to have a horseback riding adventure. Vern, the Head Wrangler, and Gabby have the honor of taking the ladies out on the trail. As a reward upon the return, they ask Vern if they can give her a new look. She admits to being nervous about the idea but agrees.
Vern spends some time with the guests, who grill her about life on the ranch. While she keeps things professional, Vern has no issue spilling the tea about the other relationships on the ranch. All that time engaging in girl talk results in the big reveal, which shows a softer side of Vern. For a woman who’s had a somewhat up-and-down experience on the show, this seems like a pretty sweet moment—one that even earns compliments from General Manager Bob Foster.
The Camping Trip
For most of those that work on the ranch, the big story of the week was going on a group camp out. Among those on the trip are Hunter and Katie, who are still somewhat awkward around each other owing to their strange relationship misfire. When Katie shares what happened to a group including chef Robin, who thinks Hunter didn’t mean to friend zone her. Robin asks if it would be OK if he talked to Hunter about it.
During a quiet moment on the trip, Robin pulls Hunter aside. His advice doesn’t land on deaf ears. Hunter realizes he blew it and admits that he’s feeling bad about what happened. The rest of the trip goes smoothly as Hunter is determined to make things right.
Back on the ranch, Hunter seizes on his moment. He makes things right with Katie, falling on the sword for his awkward behavior. Katie takes it well and it seems like there might still be a future for these two after all. Only time will tell where this saga will go next.
Gabby and Chase
Meanwhile, the Ranch’s only real couple, Gabby and Chase, seem ready to move into more of a relationship stage after last week’s flirting—and Gabby’s blow up with Carson. That leads Chase to telling his god friend Royce that he’s really falling for this girl. Now, will he find a way to make things official?
As the episode draws to a close, magically the two of them end up in a hot tub… where all the best life decisions are made. Chase makes his pitch to formalize a relationship, getting over his nervousness to talk about his feelings. It seems to be well received and they end up with a hot tub make out session, suggesting this may take a more substantive turn moving forward.
That’s it from the ranch this week! The Wranglers is now streaming on The CW site and app.
