One of the most successful love-based reality shows, The Ultimatum: Marryy or Move On, has returned for its third season. The popular Netflix series sees couples hope that they enter the experiment with questions and leave it engaged. This season kicked off with five drama-filled episodes that watched two couples leave. We break down what happened and who ended up in trial marriages together.
Through the first five episodes of The Ultimatum, we meet the couples and understand why they are here and what they hope to gain from the experiences. We watch the couples "break up" and start to mix and mingle with the other "singles," leading to a trial marriage. After picking their person, the pair moves in with one another and explores what marriage would look like.
Who are the trial marriage couples?
Scotty (Aria) and Zaina (JR)
Mariah (Caleb) and Micah (Chanel)
Chanel (Micah) and Dave (Vanessa)
Vanessa (Dave) and Nick (Sandy)
JR (Zaina) and Sandy (Nick)
Aria (Scotty) and Caleb (Mariah)
This entire table scene is a balance of boring and drama-filled. The drama-filled aspect is listening to the singles talk about the other person they connected with in front of their "ex." That said, the boring part is when it drags on far too long in an attempt to ramp up the drama. Also, I would like this to be more raw and unedited because it sometimes feels choppy.
Scotty and Zania had a genuine connection, and you could feel the instant chemistry. Chanel and Dave were one of the strangest couples to pair. I had little to no expectations for them (not shocked by what happened). Micah got emotional here, which was sincere and raw, which I love about this table scene. Speaking of Micah, he and Mariah matched, and I thought they were cute together.
Vannesa and Nick felt like a couple that could've matched and left the experience together, engaged or together. The chain of events that unfolded was shocking because their connection felt real. Nobody in the show's history had more sexual tension than JR and Sandy. My goodness, they couldn't keep their hands off one another. Nick felt so damn uncomfortable throughout the dinner scene. Since JR picked Sandy over Aria, she ended up matching with Caleb by default.
We saw much unfold with these couples in the first five episodes, and I will be interested to see if any of these couples actually swap in the long haul. After the events that unfolded, I don't think they will end up leaving with anyone new, but I sure hope we do.
The Ultimatum Season 3, episodes 1-5 are streaming on Netflix.
