5 things we want to see in Love is Blind season 7 when it comes to Netflix in October
By Mads Lennon
Love Is Blind: UK wrapped up not too long ago on Netflix, but fans are already itching to see what's going to happen next in the long-running reality dating show's American chapter. Love Is Blind season 7 will take place in Washington, D.C., and it is bound to be a dramatic season with plenty of interesting contestants. Who will find love this time around?
But as with any show that has been running for several years, there are things that Love Is Blind could stand to do better. Here are a few things we'd love to see in the next season.
5. Show more couples
On just about every single season of Love Is Blind, without fault, we later find out that additional couples got engaged that we never saw on-camera. I understand that for a show like this one, it's tricky to get the balance right, but surely there has to be some way to give us a peek at the others?
Maybe even having "A" couples and "B" couples, so you've got couples with meatier storylines front and center, but then can still occasionally check in on some of the ones who either fizzle out fast or don't have much to offer in terms of compelling television. At the very least, can't we get a highlight reel or something of the couples we missed out on? Give us more episodes or something. Surely it can't be that expensive. Netflix has been holding out on us for too long.
4. Reunion shake-up
Between the botched "live" reunion special and the frequent complaints season after season that Nick and Vanessa Lachey aren't really cut out for this kind of hard-hitting line of questioning, it's clear that the reunions need some work, especially because there is almost always fallout or drama after the show is finished that viewers don't get to see until it inevitably spills over onto podcasts and TikTok or Instagram.
Maybe Netflix needs to wait longer to film the reunions and it'd be cool if they shook things up by bringing in a different pair of hosts or host, singular. There's also this strange tendency for recent reunions to use the time to check in on couples from past seasons or to promote new reality shows. It's enough! The reunion should be about one specific season, and it needs to delve deep into all the juicy stuff, or what's the point?
3. Bring back After the Altar
I'm not sure what happened with the "After the Altar" specials. Netflix was pretty consistent with them up until that one really odd season where only two couples made it to the altar between Milton/Lydia and Stacy/Izzy. Only Milton/Lydia got married. It's still weird that we didn't get any kind of follow-up with them, even if it just ended up being an hour-long special seeing what everyone was up to, though it might be due to Izzy moving onto Perfect Match after Love Is Blind.
Regardless, now we're onto season 7 and we also haven't heard anything about an "After the Altar" special for season 6. Only one couple got married in season 6, too, but there were several others that got engaged and it'd be interesting to catch up and see what they're all doing now.
2. Fewer clout-chasers
There's no surefire way to vet people for a reality show and know you're not getting someone who is only doing it to get famous. Many would argue that everyone who goes on these shows is seeking fame in some degree at least.
And I know a lot of these types bring the drama, but I think the more interesting drama is the kind that happens organically, when people are being genuine and can't make it work or have fundamental differences and disagreements. I wish Netflix would be a little tighter in its vetting process, especially after the season 6 Trevor debacle, which was flat-out embarassing for all involved.
1. More group events
Some of the show's juiciest and most intriguing moments happen when we see everyone from the pods come together. It's too bad those moments are far and few between. Some seasons are better than others about this, but I wish we could see just a little more interaction between some of the "pod squad" members out in the real world.
Love Is Blind season 7 will begin airing on Netflix on October 2.
