The Summit on CBS: Release date, cast, and more to know about the upcoming reality show

What happens when 16 strangers team up to climb Mount Head in the Alps of New Zealand with $1 million on the line? On the new reality series debuting on CBS, The Summit, we will watch it all unfold. Each contestant will hold their own share of the prize, and if they fail to reach the Summit in 14 days, everyone goes home empty-handed. We share everything we know about the upcoming competition series with you.

The Summit looks like a blend of Survivor and Race to Survive from the trailer alone. Both of those shows challenge the competitor physically, mentally, and emotionally. What makes The Summit interesting is knowing that each contestant holds an equal share of the money as they begin their hike up the mountain. With eliminations in play, the gameplay high up in the hills could cause tempers to flare. This could be one of the year's most intriguing new reality shows.

When does The Summit come out?

The Summit will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 9 p.m. ET, with an encore presentation of the first episode on Oct. 2. It will move to Wednesdays starting Oct. 9, with an hour and a half episodes following Survivor beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET.

What is The Summit show about?

Sixteen strangers share a $1 million prize pot evenly as they attempt to reach several checkpoint camps, where they will vote someone out. Along the way, they must face obstacles and make difficult decisions, as presented by "The Mountain Keeper." If the group fails to reach the Summit in 14 days, they all go home empty-handed.

What we know about The Summit cast?

From a Trader Joe's employee and mother of two to a 29-year-old trauma nurse to a 33-year-old Air Force service member, the cast boasts many people attempting to take home the cash prize. However, many of the contestants have little to no climbing or camping experience, which means this will challenge them like never before.
