Sadly, The Golden Bachelor's Gerry Turner isn't with his winner, Theresa Nist

The Golden Bachelor’s first season might have ended with a happy ending and a follow-up wedding special, but sadly Gerry Turner and his winner Theresa Nist did not stand the test of time. In fact, they didn’t even make it a full year together. 

Gerry and Theresa quickly fell for one another during the debut season of The Golden Bachelor, and their love story captivated the fans at home. Fans could not get enough of the show making it an instant hit for ABC, who greenlit a live wedding special that aired on Jan. 4, 2024, just a few short weeks after the couple’s engagement in the season finale of the show. 

Unfortunately, their romance was not built to last it seems as the pair ended up parting ways in April 2024 with court documents obtained by ET revealing the pair parted ways after April 12, 2024, and stopped living together in the same household. Their official separation came one day after the pair appeared on Good Morning America to announce their separation as a couple. 

In the interview, the pair spoke about coming to a mutual decision to dissolve their marriage revealing that distance proved to be too much as neither party wanted to move away from their families. 

"Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we've looked closely at our situation, our living situation, and so forth, and we've kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it's probably time for us to dissolve our marriage," Turner told Good Morning America.

“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it's been how dedicated both of us are to our families,” Turner added “So we look at these conversation and we both think it's best for the happiness of each of us to live apart."

Following their formal separation in April, the pair went their separate ways and made every possible effort to settle the divorce in as timely a manner as possible. Just two months after Turner filed the official divorce papers in Indiana, the two reached a settlement on June 13, closing the book on their love story. 

While Gerry and Theresa’s relationship might not have lasted, we can’t discount how amazing the first season of The Golden Bachelor was as it reminded the audience that everyone deserves a second shot at love, and offered up the most wholesome series in the franchise’s history.
