The 6 most shocking moments from Love is Blind, broken down by season
You know we love drama here at Star Stepping. At least, on the reality TV side of things. And one of the best shows at bringing the heat is Love is Blind on Netflix. The sleeper hit, which premiered at the beginning of the pandemic, was quick to win over quarantined hearts worldwide.
Now onto its seventh season with at least two more on the way, Love is Blind, hosted by Vanessa and Nick Lachey, has branched out with franchises including Love is Blind UK, Mexico, Habibi, and Sweden. Here are the six most shocking moments of each season from the original show.
Season 1: Damien Powers saying no to Giannina Giabelli at the altar
Let’s face it: this couple was probably doomed from the moment Damian gave Gianna an empty box as part of his proposal. The gift of himself, which was not much of a gift to Giannina in the long run, was just the beginning of the couple’s tumultuous relationship.
From their constant arguing, Giannina shading Damian’s sex skills, and their hot again, cold again relationship during which should have been the honeymoon phase of their relationship, they didn’t seem to be the most compatible pair.
Still, sometimes opposites attract. So what a surprise when Damian not only turned down his potential bride at the altar, but she was so shocked she ran off in full bridal attire only to tumble down a hill.
As true Love is Blind fans know, the drama didn’t stop there. While the couple tried to work things out, Too Hot to Handle’s Francesca Farago didn’t hesitate to slide into Damian’s DMs, attending a cast reunion and going after him when both appeared on Perfect Match later that year.
Season 2: Shake Chatterjee’s pod questions
While season 2 certainly didn’t lack drama (I’m looking at you, Shayne and Natalie), one of the series most controversial stars didn’t hesitate to let the world know how he was really feeling about the blind experiment.
From asking his dates if he could lift them at a festival to try to gauge their weight, to unceremoniously spending their wedding night at Nobu, I can say with the utmost confidence that the experiment was not meant for Shake. While I agree that physical attraction is important, if you’re going to go on a show called Love is *Blind*, you have to be a tad more open-minded when it comes to your potential partner’s looks. Shake admitted in an interview with The List he was open to the experiment, but "made the best choices for himself."
While I have it on good authority from the man himself, having interviewed him on the LovePod Podcast, that Deepti Vempati was also part of the Nobu party. I can’t confirm that as unfortunately I wasn’t invited. I do applaud Shake publicly saying the show is not for everyone. Next time, Shake.
Season 3: That cuties convo with Zanab Jeffries and Cole Barnett
I was rooting for you! We were all rooting for you! -Tyra Banks, definitely referencing Zanab and Cole.
Are they Love is Blind fan favorites? Absolutely not. But did fans genuinely hope Cole’s goofy, light-hearted personality would balance out Zanab’s high-stress lifestyle? I think so. It was pretty evident the couple were mismatched, but like Giannina and Damian, there’s always hope. Unfortunately, though, two teeny, tiny tangerines sealed their fate.
Zanab took Cole’s joking about her snacking a bit too seriously, and Cole couldn’t seem to stop putting his foot in his mouth. At the altar, Zanab took center stage to stand up for herself. It seemed more like she was trying to get that America’s sweetheart edit, but that didn’t change the outcome of the wedding. The two parted ways at the altar, and are better off for it.
Season 4: The Zack/Irina/Bliss love triangle
The bread and butter of any dating reality show is the love triangles, and season 4 of Love is Blind did not disappoint. Fans, including myself, were left screaming at their screens when Zack Goytowski chose the ambivalent Irina Solomonova over sweet, cupcake-baking Bliss Poureetezadi.
To be fair, Zack couldn’t see Irina’s behavior around the women, mean-girling with Micah, but from what the audience saw, there wasn’t a very deep connection between Irina and Zack. Their awkward reveal only got worse in Mexico, where Irina was quite visibly distraught over her lack of physical connection with Zack, and unwillingness to have tough conversations. Not a marriage made in heaven that’s for sure.
In a Love is Blind first, after the couple parted ways before heading back home, Zack met up with Bliss to apologize and admit he’d made a huge mistake. Bliss was very gracious and gave him a second chance, which led to the couple getting engaged, catching up with the other cast in time to tie the knot, and now have a beautiful baby girl, Galileo. If these two ever break up, love doesn’t exist.
Season 5: Taylor Rue and JP Pierce break up on vacation
While Shake may have been shallow during his pod dates, Jared “JP” Pierce definitely broke the mold by hating on Taylor’s makeup during one of their many awkward conversations. JP seemed to be having a tough time connecting on camera, and his quiet personality was not a match for Taylor’s bubbly, outgoing vibe.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, some people are great people, but not great partners. That seems to be the case with JP. He generously donated his time when the LovePod partnered with the Love is Blind cast to fundraise for pet charities. (Shout out to all those involved, most notably all the show’s biggest villains.) He was not, however, the most supportive fiancee.
Taylor dropping the ring on the table at brunch after they spent the night in separate hotel rooms was the perfect ending to a terrible relationship.
Season 6: The Lost and Found - Jeramey and Sarah Ann spend the night out
Listen, don’t come at me. I like Jeramey. He’s a nice person. I also like Laura. And Sarah Ann. Yes, it’s possible. Here’s another case of a great person, but a crappy partner.
Laura Dadisman and Jeramey Lutinski’s relationship was very strange. While we can’t see everything that went on behind the scenes, it did seem like she ragged on him pretty hard, pretty often. Now, that doesn’t excuse Jeramey’s behavior. I do believe Laura was genuinely trying to make the relationship work. They just weren’t compatible.
The icing on the cake, however, was when Jeramey disappeared overnight but allegedly forgot his location was shared with his fiancee. While he did get an invite from fellow cast member Vince Doa to the infamous Lost and Found, he did not stay in the parking lot talking to Sarah Ann Bick. He did take her back to her house, and what happened there, we can only speculate.
When Jeramey came creeping home after staying out til 5 am, Laura was ready with receipts. Jeramey was in no mood for it, and the two didn’t talk further until the cast BBQ, where Laura once again read him his rights and the memorable line “Go kick rocks with open-toed shoes." Well played, Laura.
Even more shocking was finding out Jeramey and Sarah Ann ended up dating and moving in together for quite some time post-filming. The two have since broken up.
