Why you should catch up on Love is Blind before it returns for season 7
If you haven’t heard of Love is Blind by now, I’d love a ticket to the planet you’re living on because frankly, I’m obsessed. With six seasons and multiple franchise spinoffs worldwide including Love is Blind Sweden, Love is Blind UK, and more, I cannot get enough of this show. Here’s why you should catch up on Love is Blind before its seventh season premieres on Oct. 2in Washington, D.C.
While everyone’s reasons for watching reality TV are different, we can all still bond over the genuine connections, the love stories, and most importantly, the drama. From its premiere in Feb. 2020, Love is Blind has consistently delivered the trifecta of reality television.
Genuine love stories
To most fans, there is no topping the connection between Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton. They’re couple goals. From their first date, you could see the spark the two had before ever meeting. It only got better after the reveal. The two have now been married for four years, have two dogs (hi Sparx, named after their love “spark” on the show, and Theo), and have a mini media empire. They recently launched a podcast called Couples Therapy.
Other couples still together from the last six seasons of Love is Blind include Amber Pike and Matt Barnett - season 1; Colleen Reed and Matt Bolton, and new parents Alexa Alfia, now Alexa Lemieux, and Brennon Lemieux - season 3, (congrats guys!); Chelsea Griffin and Kwame Appiah, Tiffany Penny and Brett Brown, and Bliss Poureetezadi and Zack Goytowski - also new parents!
That makes three couples from season 4, the most successful season of Love is Blind to date. Season 5 also saw couple Lydia Gonzalez Velez and James Milton Jr, aka Milton, tie the knot. From season 6, Amy Cortés and Johnny McIntyre are also still married.
The drama
One of the hallmarks of reality TV that keeps millions of fans coming back is the dra-maaaa. You may not want to admit it, but if we only saw happy couples with zero conflict, we’d never get another season of the show.
Why else would the engaged couples be contractually obligated and strongly encouraged to walk down the aisle if it didn’t bring in millions of viewers? We’re watching for a reason. While of course, no one hopes for the cast to go through heartbreak, it still is pretty interesting to watch. Call it human studies, call it trash television. Whatever you call it, the drama is one of the main reasons we keep watching. Here are some of the most shocking moments from the last six seasons of Love is Blind. You can read the full list:
- Jeramey and Sarah Ann spending the night out while Jeramey’s engaged to Laura
- Taylor and JP breaking up in Mexico
- Zack and Irina split up, and Zack marries Bliss
The looks
This probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve googled (CAST MEMBER’S) dress from (EPISODE) of Love is Blind. I also embarrassingly follow the wedding gown designer from season 1’s Giannina Gibelli. You know, just in case I ever need it.
The cast of Love is Blind all bring their own wardrobes, but do have a budget for their weddings, including the dresses and tuxes, provided by Netflix. While a lot of the women have influencer partnerships with companies like Shein, many who use the show as a jumping-off point for entertainment careers end up getting the full-on glam treatment, partnering with designers and professional styling teams like any other major celebrity. Not to mention, where else would we find the perfect skin care routines or lip color without Jessica’s TikToks?!
While many fans complain they want to see more average-looking people on reality shows, especially dating ones, it’s also fun to check out the glow-ups many of the singles and couples get while their love stories play out.
The spinoffs
Raise your hand if you’ve ever watched Perfect Match. Yes, the show that gives us genuine love stories also gives us the wonderful disaster that is the Nick Lachey-hosted Perfect Match. So if you didn’t get enough of your favorites on their season of Love is Blind, you can tune in to watch them half-heartedly attempt a second shot at love, but mostly making out and playing ridiculous matchmaking challenges.
