Love is Blind's biggest scandals of all time, part 4

Wrapping up our review of Love is Blind's biggest scandals of all time, here are Love is Blind season 1's dramatic moments. Compared to future seasons, this list is relatively tame. Let's go!

In the seven seasons Love is Blind has aired, there have been some jaw-dropping moments. The drama has increased as time goes by, but Love is Blind season 1 had its fair share of scandals, too. From a love triangle to a lost ring, here's a look back at the three biggest scandals of the season.

The Jessica/Amber/Barnett love triangle

To be 100% honest, I think this particular love triangle was blown out of proportion. Sure, Jessica Batten had a thing for Matt Barnett. And of course, she wasn't into her pod fiancee Mark Cuevas. Was she really trying to get Barnett to ditch his fiancee, Amber Pike? No, I genuinely don't think so.

Jess was flirtatious and toeing the line when it came to trying to catch Barnett's eye, but I think when push came to shove, it was maybe, possibly, just in the realm of possibility, that it was played up for the cameras. On a reality TV show? Nooooo, say it ain't so!

As a brief recap, Barnett had a very difficult time choosing between his pod connections, Amber and Jess 'Baby Voice' Batten, and ultimately proposed to Amber. Jess accepted Mark's proposal, but it was clear from reveal day she just wasn't that into him. The only way she managed to connect with him was through a re-created pod date where they shared wine through a wall. That whole Mark is 24 and Jessica is 34 age difference really got into her head. To be fair, that is a huge age difference and maturity difference. Usually. In this case, well, both are happily married and growing their families.

Speaking of growing families, Amber and Matt Barnett are also expecting! They announced their first pregnancy in 2024. You know Vanessa Lachey is buying out Babies R Us somewhere out there.

Giannina and Damian's bedroom bliss

Love is Blind relationships have been full of rollercoasters in the seven seasons that have aired so far. One of the most brutal fights in the show's history has to be season 1, when Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers are discussing their future and Gigi so viciously knocks Damian's bedroom skills on the biggest streaming service of all time. Ouch.

Despite their hot and cold relationship, the two limped along to the altar, only for Damian to turn down Giannina when it came time to say "I do". That did not go down well, as you'd expect. What did go down, however, was Giannina. In a heartbreaking but hilarious moment, she runs out of the ceremony only to go sliding down a muddy hill in her wedding dress.

The two tried to make it work, but I'm going to guess that Damian bringing Too Hot to Handle's Francesca Farago to a cast party was the final nail in the coffin. Giannnina is now happily engaged to The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise alum Blake Horstmann, and the two welcomed baby Heath in 2024. Damian has been rather private since his time on Perfect Match and Miss/Match in 2023, and his relationship with Francesca didn't last despite choosing each other briefly on the beach.

Carlton and Diamond's poolside blow up

When I pictured "The Carlton" prior to 2020, it was always an innocent, cheesy dance move Alfonso Ribiero made famous on Fresh Prince of Bel Air. In Love is Blind lore, it will forever be associated with the most ridiculous blow-up in the show's history, ending with an engagement ring thrown into a pool. I've never recovered, and I don't think the ring was, either.

Carlton and Diamond got engaged in the pods, and their connection was tenuous from their first meeting. While Diamond tried her best, Carlton coming out as bisexual seemed too much for her to take. Now, to give credit to both parties, that is a lot to process and she didn't say she wasn't accepting, she just needed time to process. I can understand why Carlton would be hesitant to share, but waiting until after the pods was too little, too late.

His reaction to her asking for some space to think sealed the deal though. When the two got together to discuss their future, Carlton's extreme reaction and Diamond taking the bait ended the relationship before they finished their vacation. Probably for the best though. My own experience with Carlton post-show was not so smooth either. As this was not his first time on reality TV losing his s--t (he also got into a massive blow-up with Kenya Moore on season 5 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta), it seems like Carlton was looking for fame, not love.
