Dancing with the Stars Season 33 Night 6 Recap: The Ballroom bids farewell to Reality Royalty
By Matthew Fox
And then there were seven! Dancing With the Stars continued its 33rd season with Disney night on Tuesday. We got lavish costumes, emotional stories, a group dance, and sent one of our stars home.
Another Celebrity Eliminated
Things are getting tense in the Ballroom as we careen toward the Mirror Ball trophy. For Disney night we got a close call with former Bachelorette Jenn Tran and Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik ending up in the Bottom Three. Both remain in the competition, but there are no easy choices left as the competitors remain tight packed. Everyone was sitting at a 24 out of 30 or better for individual dances, meaning there isn’t much separating those left.
The third member of the bottom three—Reality Royalty Phaedra Parks—wasn’t as lucky. She delivered a decent individual dance and was strong in the group competition, but she became the latest celebrity eliminated from the competition.
The Top of the Leaderboard
Meanwhile, some stars are starting to set themselves apart—or show marked improvement. Danny Amendola, who has been around the top, scored a 27 out of 30 for a jazz dance with partner Witney Carson themed to Deadpool & Wolverine. Meanwhile Chandler Kinney, and partner Brandon Armstrong bounced back. They also got a 27 out of 30 and ended up with the highest score via a tiebreaker. That gives them immunity from the dance off next week.
Chandler and Brandon performed a Paso doble to a song from her own film—Zombies 2. It held great emotional significance for Chandler, who reunited with castmates as part of the week’s preparations.
Among other performances, Ilona Maher took another step forward with an emotional Jazz routine to Encanto. The performance earned her and partner Alan Bersten their first nine of the season. That led them to a third-place tie with Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson at 25 out of 30 in the individual dances.
In the group dance, team Goofy, led by Ilona, finished with 27 out of 30 to post the best spot. The team included Ilona, Joey, Jenn, and Chandler, and performed a fun set to the theme from the Goofy movie.
The competition continues Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
