3 ways to fix the Love is Blind Reunions
Another season of Love is Blind has come to a close, and this has been the longest one yet. The controversial break ups and post-show drama left us all understandably shaken and hoping the reunion would provide some closure. As usual, we were left with with more questions than answers when Nick and Vanessa took the stage to play favorites and encourage chaos in the worst ways possible. Here's how to fix the Love is Blind reunions.
Let the fans run it
I've seen the petitions to replace the Lacheys as hosts, and while I think they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to reunion questions, I think they still have a chance to turn things around. We've seen the audience interaction, but there's no fan participation. The questions we truly want answered never get addressed, and instead, they create new drama around cast members who frankly, don't deserve it.
It was hard to watch the attack on Nick when there were multiple offenders with far worse storylines than writing out an "I want to be famous" 90 day goal. I really hate to spoil the plot for everyone, but every single person on that stage wants to be famous. You'd have to be insane not to partner with your favorite brands to make a buck post-show. In an ideal world, everyone would go on the show strictly to find love, but the numbers don't lie. The odds of finding lasting love on reality TV are pretty awful. Hire a matchmaker, serious singles, you're much better off. I'm not saying there aren't cast members there genuinely hoping to find love, but there are a million other ways to do it without signing up for an international Netflix show.
Let the fans submit questions live, or if they must, in advance on social media. Who knows better what the audience wants to know than us?
Better cast vetting
The best way to solve problems is to prevent them from starting in the first place. Executive Producer Chris Coelen doubled down on their cast vetting process stating "everyone in the world has a story and we aren’t the police" in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. You don't have to be the FBI to have an Instagram account, Chris. And before you flood my DMs with Chelsea hate, she's one person on an entire team. Don't @ me, or her.
I can forgive Love is Blind for a lot. This season in particular, we had more contestants than ever there for the wrong reasons. Stephen was ultimately just looking for more women to slide into his DMs. Then there's Hannah, who was mad about Nick's 90 day goal to become LIB famous, but quit her job to be on the show and now has a manager and moved to LA. For those two, I may not be thrilled, but I forgive you Netflix. BUT if the allegations are true, the conversation about Tyler's children was handled terribly. He didn't want to talk about it, which is totally understandable, but Ashley forced his hand bringing them up on camera and he blatantly lied about them and his role in their lives - again, allegedly. Those court cases are public record.
If the fans can dig up dirt with a few Google searches, surely a team of casting directors and producers can do a basic scroll through the cast's social media profiles to see if there's any scorned girlfriends or I don't know, hidden children? Just sayin', reality TV fans could rule the world if we combined our powers. Let's start by partnering with the production team.
Stop trying to make Hannah happen
I mean this in a broader sense, but bear with me for a moment. Love is Blind is trying so hard to make Hannah likeable. They played down her verbal bullying throughout the show, and came hard for Nick to make him the villain. They didn't even press her on her behavior during the reunion, and let her get away with the throwaway "I'm just direct" comment. There are a million ways to be direct without being rude, and she doesn't seem to care. Fine, do you Hannah. But the way Netflix clearly favors her makes me believe they're setting her up for us to see her on our screens again.
In case you didn't know, AD is on the cast of Perfect Match season 3. Now that you know that, does it make more sense why they kept throwing softballs to her and bringing her up at the season 7 reunion? She isn't on this season. She got more air time than Stephen.
Now I don't think AD is a villain at all, but just want to give a comparison of how often both AD and Hannah are getting screen time, and how they are definitely Nick and Vanessa's star pupils. Last season's reunion, the men were thrown under the bus, too. Most of them definitely deserve their wrist slaps, but let's not protect certain cast members just because they sign up for another lucrative Netflix contract.
I don't know that Hannah is definitely on the next season of Perfect Match that films, I don't even know if season 4 has started filming yet. Just pure speculation based on how the reunion went down.
